I have a prepaid cell phone. I pay for minutes before hand and use them as I need.
Mine is 10cent per minute I buy in quantities of $20 for 200 minutes and I have those minutes for 60days (2 months) before they expire ...
I just buy more if I need it.

I have unlimited minutes every month, with every feature on my phone, caller id, call waiting, etc for $40 a month.

This is good since I usually average about 2-3000 minutes a month.

I swear I'm not as intelligent as I was when I graduated. I've been contributing it to not starting college right when I graduated, but it appears as though I overlooked the frying of my brain cells by my phone...
Actually it's gone down quite a bit ... but I'm probably still frying all sorts of things up there.

I was very dissapointed to notice that I have to pay in US even when I reseave a phonecall to my cell! That's just plain sick!
If I'd live over there I wouldn't want people to call me nor would I call anyone since either way I still have to pay (atleast in CA)

Over here my cell phone bill is usually around 20$/month, sometimes a bit higher and sometimes a bit lower, we don't have any strickt plans nor du we have rollover minutes but I don't really need them because I never call that much and the price per minute is really cheap!!

I would guess Finland works the same as Sweden, and you only have to pay if you change operators to a foreign one. For example, every time I go to Denmark, all my friends's cells start search for a network, and find some Danish thingy. So every time someone calls them, the caller pays the normal fee, while the called person pays some fee to transfer the call over to Denmark.
I don't even own a cell. Kinda unusual these days when people bought 2.4 million cell phones last year, and we only have 9 million people.

Nope, I had to get a pre paid card when I went to US, my service provider hasn't rented coveridge from local companies so my zip didn't work once we landed on JFK... I just got me a cingular pre paid zip and loaded 30$ into it and once a friend of mine called me (same area code as I had then) I paid around 4$ for a 10 minute call and it was him who called me! My agent (uhhh I love to use that word...lol makes me feel all famous

) said that it's the same way no matter what plan you have, of course if you have fixed minutes and a roll over plan then the only thing you'll loose is minutes not money but still. I've never had to pay to reseave calls (yes unless I'm abroad with my finnish zip) so I was stunned to learn this!

You will find Pia that is the joy of having what is called international roaming. If you are overseas and ring someone only u pay for the call...but if someone rings you they pay for the call from their end and you pay for the joy of receiving it....
My hubby and I found that one out the hard way...he is in the Navy and about 6 yrs ago while he was in Singapore I rang him and spoke to him every day as our service provider had a really good deal on at the time....however what we didn't know was that they were also charging him 75 cents a minute to receive my calls!!! Grand total for about a weeks worth of calls on my home phone was about $30...cost for him to receive them $290-00!!!! Now I just buy international calling cards for him to use when he is away and all he has to do is find a phone box...
As for cell phones both hubby and I have one and it costs us about $25 each every 2 months as we usuall only text message each other...
Pia

kezree,
Yep I noticed that sending text messages even from Cali to Finland was a lot cheaper than I expected (so atleast something good!) I only paid 5 cents to reseave/send one no matter where it went or came from!
I'm so used to SMS's that it was actually a really good thing!
Unfortunately I can't only get a calling card when I'm visiting US, I have to be reached at all times because of work but hey it isn't like I come over there every month lol so paying some to reseave calls while I'm there isn't that bad!

I use tracfone. Its a pay by you go service. Its rather expensive though at $0.50 a minute for some cards. But I don't use it that much so its a better deal then a montly contract for me. If you e-mail my phone keep the message short. (about 1 to 2 words) so I can read it without opening it and using minutes.
Oh and I also have to buy a card every once in a while to keep my service active.

I have Verizon, got a decent deal on it a couple of years ago. With taxes, etc it's only 28.something a month. Only have 125 peak minutes though, but rarely go over. I make my long distance calls after 9 or on weekends. Saves a bundle, and on weekends and at night I can still be online and talk on the phone.

I used to use my phone all the time...
I would rack up anywhere from 1,500+ minutes on weekends only.. mostly from talking to my x-gf ..
I made them lose a lot of money

My phone bill would be over 20 pages both sides of the pages... every month

I don't use a houseline... all calls are made from my cell phone.
I don't use my phone as often anymore.. but I never had a prob

and when I send the message I press +18185559939 and it goes through.

Well up until recently it's been US Unwired. My plan is called "The Big Mouth Plan"

Image that eh?
But yeah, it's unlimited minutes for like $35/month, then $3 or something for all the features. My bills never more than $40/month, depending on if I call my dad in Michigan or not.
Cingular just bought out US Unwired though. My plan and bill isn't going to change, but I don't know if they're going to offer my plan to future customers or not.

I'm about to switch to Sprint though. That's who my fiance's through, and it'll be free for us to talk to each other and he's the main person I use my phone for. Plus, they have awesome phones and free nationwide long distance for me to call my dad. My mom's going to buy the phone I want for my birthday since I can't afford it. LoL
