What are your favorites?

Anyone into Feng Shui?
Any florists or botanists here?
Pia
Uhhuh I'm sooooo bad with plants, I never remember to water them and in the end they always die, we haven't had any in the past 6 years, partially because they would die and because we have two cats, it's too much of a work to find out if they're poisoneus to them or not so we figured we skip the house plants all together.

I guess our home feng shui is pretty much messed up anyways tongue.gif

hmmm I love african violets, cyclemans, olixis plants. I love to garfen out side and I dabble alot in perrenials, and lilies are my favorite out there. I have been getting into forcing bulbs and different types of container gardening. smile.gif

Can you check the spelling of 'olixis'?
Do you mean Oxalis?
QUOTE
Oxalis leaves are clover shaped and can be shades of green, red, or purple. The oxalis blossoms can be white, yellow, pink or red.

We have a twin-Amarilis in the windowsill now.
We got it as a bulb, and it's opening this week; BIG flower, LOL.
Ours is more red than these:

edited: hmm, not sure if you can see the image.. it worked for a few minutes after I posted it, but I get a red x now.

Now I right-clicked it and went to the url, and the picture was there, and when I came back to the forum it was here too. Maybe that works for you too if you can't see it now..

our cat is very cautious
He only eats his grass, and leaves the other plants in our house alone (which is good for him too because some of them are toxic to cats).

They have grass specifically grown for cats. My cat loved the stuff.

We have an amaryllis too. One stalk, with four flowers at the top. I'm not really a fan of pink, but it's gorgeous.

Those things are pretty tough. Got it for Christmas, and it sat in a sealed box for a month before it was taken out. It just started blooming a few days ago.

If I just had a website, I could scan a pic for you...but I'm too lazy tongue.gif

Let's see.... right now I have an amaryllis (candy-cane), several small iris that didn't get planted before it got too cold, some tuberose (awesome fragrance), a few flowering cactus, aloe plants, and a peace lily. I don't really do houseplants well - our house has very little sunlight coming in because of the window awnings. I prefer to plant seeds inside for replanting outside later and force bulbs.

I have only one houseplant. It started as a cutting from my grandmother's wax plant, which is over 100 years old! I've had the plant for 12 years now.

Wax plants require very little maintenance, which is great for a brown-thumb gardener like me! Once a year, the plant blooms with small white flowers that are incredibly fragrant. The leaves are "waxy" - shiny, dark green, firm leaves - very pretty. My plant is huge! I'll soon make cuttings for my daughter -- time to get the next generation involved in keeping Grandma's plant going.

No house plants here, I'm too good at killing them off biggrin.gif

As for gardening, well let's just say I'm not exactly green fingered. However, I am good at designing them, so I do the planning then pass on the work to the menfolk, as it should be wink.gif
