I'm using Cabel modem at home too, but I never got trouble with proxy server. She might need to contact her ISP and check her IE settings.

tell her to go to http://www.all-nettools.com/pr.htm =and if it says no proxy detected it should be good. If it says proxy detected tell her to go under start ..control panel...internet options...connections tab(at the top) go under settings , make sure all boxes are unchecked and do the same for lan settings ... also go under start ..control panel ...network connections..right click on what you use to connect to the internet ...(under lan settings for her if she uses cable) then properties ..advanced tab then uncheck firewall block..all this should get rid of the proxy ...if it's a transparent proxy try telling her to dl www.crazybrowser.com and try accessing whatever it was she was trying to access by using that ..if none of this works she may contact her cable company and ask them
