Just wondering; $1 is the equivalent of about 6 South African Rand. With R6 I can buy myself a cup of coffee at a coffee shop. Cant think of much more I could do with R6! Where are you from, what currency does your country use, how much is it in US Dollars, and what can you buy for it?

a US dollar is worth less than 1 ? (euro) and that gets me pretty much nothing over here

1 liter of milk or something else on the same price range is what I can get with one 1$.
The cheapest thing in McDonald's over here is worth 1? and it's that cheap only when they have special deals for customers.

In Poland $1 is worth about 4 PLN (polish zloty) and you need about 5 dollars to get a glass of martini and wodka in a nice pub.
As for the food, you can get a breakfast for $1 here, and even 2 liters of milk...and I don't eat in McDonalds, so I dunno how much you can get there for that, but I bet anyway that would be enought to get sick!
BTW Pia don't scare me about the prices, cause I'm moving to Sweden in few weeks...am I right that you speak about Sweden?

Our dollar has gone up against the U.S. currncy now woth around 72 cents. A litre of petrol is under $1. A lof of bread is $1 at Franklins and 2 litres of milk there is $2. I can buy 30 cans of coke for $13.89 and I sell them for $1 each in my machines. But the headlights have gone in my car and I will have to pay for that plus many other bills. So in my case coca cola has saved me from ruin.

Australia here too
$1 Us = $1.38 Au
Can't get much for that, UNLESS you hit the 'on special' shelves in the supermarket.
Last week i got a 200g box of Arnotts Barbeque Shapes (flavoured crackers - for those who don't know what they are) for 96c Au. The best movie munchies!
Or a 50g packet of Red Rock Deli Sweet Chilli and Sour Cream chips, but they don't last very long. If you're really lucky you might score a 375ml can (or maybe two) of orange, lime or lemon soda. Soft drink machines like gotluckys little investment are great!
In 'Downunder' you can get some fantastic bargains, you just have to take the time to look for them. We have lots of $1 and $2 shops and the range of useful 'junk' is amazing. Sunglasses, foodstuffs, blank cd packs, pen & pencil packs, kids toys...the list goes on.
Discount vouchers and cards are useful items, i save heaps on fuel for my car. Work it smart and you can save up to 18c per litre

I live in Albuquerque (NM, USA)...
Our dollar stores kick butt (you can get brand name food items like Hamburger Helper and such that usually go for $1.75 - $4), and sometimes Smith's (one of our grocery stores) has sales where you can get an entire flyer full of items for $1 each.
One of the staples of my hubby's & my diet is turkey burger - we can get it at most grocery stores for 99 cents, and it makes many other side dishes seem more like a meal when we're particularly poor.

This was a cool idea for a thread! I would have thought things would have been a lot cheaper in Pakistan.
nafan already said that $1 is about 64pence in the Uk. That would buy me a can of coke, or 4 bottles of dead cheap tesco cola

1kilo of sugar is app $1, I could buy about 1/4 pint of beer in a pub for $1 if they sold in 1/4 pints

3 baking potatoes cost me $1, I could get 2 packets of potato chips for $1, 2 first class stamps to send a letter within the Uk, about 2pints of milk for $1
My isp is ?16 a month for dial up - $25
I bought the sims unleashed for xmas ?20 - $31
Cheap packet of ciggies ?3.75 - $5.85
Return bus fare to my nearest town ( i am in a village where shop prices are about 150% of town prices ) ?3 - $4.70
2l bottle of coca cola at the shop next door ?1.30 - $2

Now it isn't the lowest so far, I could get that too but I chose to get a faster one!
Also I don't know how partial those news are that you find on the net, atleast over here you could get almost as fast connection as you would like but the price naturally goes up with the speed! I know that my brother has a 7Mb speed on his connection but there's no way I would pay more than 100$ per month for internet!

I can get a call-up ISP for free, but then I have to pay to use the phone. And thats about 1 dollar pr. hour. So if I stay online 2 houres a day it will cost me more than 60 dollars and for 56 kbits connection.
Btw. 495 NOK is covering everything I need to get online including the fee the wiring company take. I dont have a regular phone.
