heya, anyone got any good stories about their webhosting ?
I'm looking for good pricing vs reliability ... of course =)
With the option to later upgrade my service level without breaking my wallet .... and support for mysql and php 4.1+ ... of course =)

Those of us who are hosted at myecom are biased towards it. The tech support is unbelievable!
And they have all the bells and whistles. You can install any kind of script you wish.

I'm quite sure that MEC means well but it is not a good host.
I understand that some people are happy with them and I think they should stay :-) However, I have talked to literally dozens of people who are, or have been, hosted with MEC and the complaints are endless.
Not to say that people don't sometimes complain for no reason ;-) ... but I have personally seen a lot of the problems and they are real.
The other problem is that MEC has higher prices than almost any other host I've seen. I've personally worked with all kinds of hosts and price checked even more. I beleive this has to do with the way they are set up. I doubt they're charging so much out of greed... I think they're just paying too much for bandwidth.
I'm referring, not to their base cost, but to what a site ends up paying because of additional bandwidth needs.
The MEC scripts, however, are far better than CAC scripts... in case you were curious. :-)
Someone I work with often is running a very high quality hosting service with very good prices. I won't advertise here, You can email me if you want more info: design@getpaidtobeonline.net
Have fun,
Ian

lol ... what have I done
suppose I was being vague there and don't want to get in a fight over CC and CAC scripts, as we're gonna be using inhouse custom scripts.
At this moment, currently at testing stage and looking to prelaunch in a week or two, soooo I'm looking ahead for cheap bandwidth
any good stories about web hosting

The only one I use and will use in the future (at least as far as I'm concerned right now) is Liquid Web. I've had one site with them for 5 months and one Ian just moved there for me. 9 times out of 10 tech support has been great, answering right away and either taking care of the problem immediately or telling me how to. (I said 9 out of 10 Ian... lol. there was the ONE time..*grin*)
But... you can't beat their mass mailer and I LOVE my phpmyadmin!! The package I use is $14.95 a month and I've never even come close to going over my limits.
Also, I don't think Ian was getting into anything... he was just kind of stopping an attack before it got started... lol. You might want to email him for his friend's info too. I trust Ian implicitly.

will do email ... didn't see that, being in speed read mode at the time
re scripts: I didn't mean anything evil about the scripts, either. Was just saying a preference between MEC and CAC means nowt to me, but being charged Zillions of cash for throttling bandwidth does

um ... yeah phpmyadmin rawks

just DON'T go with Host4Profit..
HoseU4PRofit... grrrrrrrr
hmmm, good hosts are hard to find, I think.. but I have been discussing things with Ian and I also trust him.
With Regards To MyEcom... John is a great guy, it's just that some of us can't afford $30 and over to run our PTRE sites. Plus the server dies regularly and there are a TON of script errors.

This is a biased opinion but...
http://www.myacen.comI have been with that hosting place back when they provided free web space to select people, nearly a year and a half ago. I got 100 mb space and 3 gb monthly bandwith for 2.50 a month. GREAT Support, great speed, great forums, everything is perfect. Too bad... they just doubled their prices, its now 5.95 a month for the plan but I would still recommend them. I have had the best experience with them.
