I opened my e-gold account to find two payments made to a program I've never heard of, Roboxchange.com. I sent an email to e-gold.com and to roboxchange.com. I wanted to post it here for two reasons.

1. This is the only place I post my e-gold account or use it to pay people. I urge others here to check their accounts. Their is a good chance the hacker is a member here.

2. I don't know what to do. I am on the verge of tears. A little over 10 bucks was stolen and I have members to pay in the referral exchange. I could use some advice and kind words to hopefully get my money back

P.S. Has anyone heard of Roboxchange.com or used it before. While clicking through the site looking for support info the language switched to russian. Any help much appreciated

Im no expert but ill tell you what ive read a hundred times in similar circumstances

Its most likely you have picked up a trojan or keylogger virus/spyware

Egold wont do much without a court order other than possibly place a limit on the offending egold account.

Advice is

1/ download a program like adaware and run it regular
2/ get some decent anti virus software and keep it uptodate
3/ get a fire wall even if its a free one like zone alarm

are you likely to get your money back ? about 0.1% chance

They exchange e-gold. Got to http://www.whois.sc and type in the domain name and you will get their phone number etc. As a currency exchange the fbi might be intersted.

sorry to hear that, ladychane sad.gif
it sure looks like a trojan again....

10$ is nothing, some has lost thousands of bucks. But still it's annoying if someone steals your e-gold.

I get adaware and zonealarm from www.cnet.com

look at the top of the screen at cnet and use the search feature to find the programs

make sure you check once in a while for updates as well.

As for cheap or free av software I would seriouly recomend buying an over the counter package like mcafes or nortons ( mcafes is better imho )

10 bucks IS alot to me. If I ever had 1000 bucks online I would quicly put it under my mattress where it's safe...lol

Thanks for all the info guys. It seems this person was doing this before with the same e-gold account months ago and their account still hasn't been banned or closed.

Not to sound stupid but what does a fire wall do/ what's it for?

In real laymans terms when some one is trying to hook up to your machine for what ever reason the firewall masks your connection so even though they may know your ip or whatever the firewall in effect returns a not found message.

Its obviously 1000% time more complicated than that but thats a kind well basic paragraph on it

Oh god the person who hacked my account about 3 months ago and took over $570 send his payment to that same place.
Now I never keep more than 5 bucks in my account. I love e-gold but I am sorry it is not safe.
I heard the best way to keep those ###### trojans from entering is to change to a Linux operating system.
What I really hated when it happen to me was the e-gold admistration itself. I notified of the problem. I could not log in. I knew my password. I had used it over a 1000 times. The irresposible e-gold admistration did not send me a new password for
for about 3 days. It took over 12 hours to contact somebody by phone cause they only work from 8 hours a day. They do not have 24 hour support. Instead of a person,I got an answering machine during my first phone call telling me to call during working hours at 8:00 in the morning. I know the exact time it was ocurring and I knew it was ocurring and e-gold simply let it happen. We all know that exchage place take a min of 8hours to pay from the time you send the e-gold to them. I knew I was getting robbed and e-gold did not take it serious. The e-gold admistration sucks

I to was the receipent of having my egold acct hacked. It was blamed on keyloggers. I have since run extra software but I'm not picking up any keylogging.

I did file a complaint with IFCC to see if someone could make egold take some responsibility for the hacking that is transpiring.

You can reach the internet fraud complaint center here: http://www1.ifccfbi.gov/index.asp

Maybe if enough people file complaints egold will take a serious look at how easy there system is hacked into and make some changes to safegaurd those using their services.

Sorry to hear you lost your funds.
djsamatt
I had mine hacked twice within the past 2 months. The 1st time I caught it in time before my money was stolen. Not so lucky the 2nd time around.

All E-gold did was put a limit on the acct that it was sent to. Meaning, that acct can't receive any money now.

Windows 98 has what's called the Cumulative Update. Go to http://download.microsoft.com and search for it. I believe Windows ME has similar. I am not going to check though because sorry, but ME is the nastiest version of Windows to grace this earth. My condolences!

Windows 2000 has Service Pack 4. Install it.
Windows NT has Service Pack 6. Install that.
Windows XP has a Service Pack 1. Install that. Your Windows XP will become USELESS if you are using a pirate (copied, stolen, borrowed) version.

Everyone on Windows 2000, NT or XP ALSO needs the RPC stub vulnerability patch. Search for them. Install them.

Windows 95 might as well be an open invitation to hackers. Sorry, but it is so old, it won't run the latest Internet Explorer and it's dangerous. Save all your PTR cash and upgrade as soon as you can.

EVERYONE who is running Internet Explorer should be using version 6 with the Service Pack installed. Search for IE 6 and run the service pack.

A word to the wise: your fantastic (whatever) browser that is free might be a serious security risk. For this reason I recommend you run IE, Mozilla, or Netscape, the three that are trusted and not known for major security holes that have been left unpatched.

Does Windows98 not need a RPC stab vulnerability patch?

I was JUST coming to post this same comment.

I do understand that some have had far more stolen from them, but personally, if I had $10 taken from my account I think that would be the END of ptr for me.

go to microsoft homepage, click on IT-professionells then click on
Security Bullentin Search.
There you can choose your operating system, IE, and other programms.
Get the latest updates.
Microsoft doesn`t support Win95/98 anymore.Soon WinMe,too.
But you can get still the latest updates.
In WinME you can only get the updates via the Update-function.

Dangerous security holes found in: outlook express, IE SP1, WinXP,
DirextX,Win Media Player.

get secure, stay secure.
