Hi,
Recently brought a script and the installed it and done with the design and Someone hacked into my site and deleted everything. dry.gif Now I talk to my host he needs $25 to restore my site back the way it is. So I thought to myself since I didn't launch it yet I wouldn't be a problem to just start from scratch and try to re-install the script. It will probably take me 2 days to do it. But right now I'm having a problem can someone please help me? I'm getting a 403 error when I try to acess my site. (Forbidden error) Why is that? And how can I fix this? Hopefully someone can help me. (I didn't block myself from acessing my site)

Sounds like your permissions need to be reset.

Sounds like your permissions need to be reset.

I'm no expert on this stuff, but what that means (I think) is using chmod in your FTP program to set permissions for the directory in question on your server. Scripts I've been setting up usually tell you to set the chmod to 777 for directories that you need full read & write permission to, but I think you have to remember to set them back again afterwards in some cases (depending on what ongoing read/write needs the script has for each directory).

Hope that helps a bit. smile.gif

I sure am getting a good reputation as being a good tech person, but I just muddle along until I figure something out or until I can find someone who's smarter than me to consult.
For some reason everyone thinks I'm a genius.

Everything's relative Cathy wink.gif Including genius.
Your experience, tolerance and allround niceness makes you one of the few who will always be looked up to by many many people.

Maybe you're not a genius, but I for one reckon you're a legend! wink.gif

I nominate you for whatever our GPF equivalent is of a 'lifetime achievement award'.

Now that I've said that, I should mention I just went to your site and clicked on the "Rotate Your Banner Across Our Network Of Sites: CLICK HERE!" link and got this error:

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I'm setting up my own banner exchange, after a recent little mention of it here when we were talking about how to deliver a million banners (in this lifetime tongue.gif ). And I was gonna check yours out to get 'inspiration'.

Here's what happened:
The banner exchange got hacked, and all the member files were deleted.
Admin and banners are in a different directory and so I can still get in admin and banners are still rotating.
I couldn't find the original zip file of the banner exchange script, so I went back to the website where I got it, and the site is no longer there.
Soooooooooo, here's what I'm gonna do: I found a new banner exchange script, and I'm going to set up a brand new banner exchange and start over from scratch.

Bummer about losing the data. <sigh>

I downloaded one from hotscripts - called easybanner I think, and have it set up and running, but I haven't publicised it yet as I'm worried about this exact thing - security. Do you think password protecting the admin directory is enough? Or is there somethign else I can do? I read that I do that by editing the htaccess file, but haven't got any further than that yet.

Mine was password protected, I was just attacked by a very determined hacker with a vendetta (long story).
Editing the htaccess file should do it.
