I have just started to manage Cobra Emails. So far I have gotten over 100 bounced emails for 7 consecutive days. Since this site has been down for quite awhile, I really don't want to delete them all, considering some have referrals and earnings (nothing major but still don't want to see them lose it) and they may have forgotten about having an account here since it was down for so long. Alot of these are the normal bouncing ones, yahoo, zwallet, etc.
I was wondering if it is ok to send them an email using my personal email address explaining that they had signed up for an account at cobra, they have earnings, referrals, etc. and that their email address they signed up for us with is bouncing, also telling them how to fix this so our emails don't bounce if they wish to remain a member. Or would this be considered spam and would I get the site in trouble.

If I can't do this, is there anything else I can do?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I really don't want to delete these accounts, especially ones with a bit in them. sad.gif

Put them into vacation mode, if you can.

If you cant, then unfortuantly for them, you will need to delete them. You can get into trouble for sending emails which are bouncing back like that. Lot of ISPs do tend to count them as being UCE even though the person opted in with that email address. Plus it clogs up the inbox like anything.

As to sending them a personal email. Not advisable. IF any of them have a problem with the site, they will then take it out on you. Your email address will end up on spammers lists, and worst still, be closed down for you spamming them, even though they had signed up for the site.

Bouncers are a REAL pain. You're stuck between wanting to get rid of the bouncing addresses, and not wanting to lose members who may well be active. I eventually gave up trying to stop/police it about the same time CC brought in the Inbox feature. For a few months I sent most mails to Inbox only, and a daily notice to the email addresses redirecting to the inbox. But not all sites/scripts have Inboxes anyway, so that option is probably not there for you.

I'd be careful using my personal email address, but you could probably quite easily set up a new free address with some site or other and use that. While you have less than a 1000 members especially, I would think you wouldn't get problems for sending bulk email. unsure.gif

On the other hand, I tried it once with my personal email, and found that my ISP has some sort of limit on sending a message to too many people at once. It may have been 100 maximum - not sure - but would vary from ISP to ISP. So you might have to send a mail out in batches of 100 (or whatever).

Hope that helps a little at least smile.gif

Thanks, that helps alot. I will set them to inactive and email them from another one of my email addresses, one by one to let them know. I get all kinds of spam now from in one of them so a little more won't hurt, laugh.gif , as I just delete everything that's in it every 3 days anyway.

Again to both of you, thanks for your help. I do appreciate it. biggrin.gif
