Think of it as real money - because it is a currency just like the Euro or the Dollar, and it will allow you to cash out at many programs.

You can then use it - or exchange it - once you have some saved up.

Many of the webmasters need e-Gold to pay their membership, and would be very happy to send you a check or credit your bank account.

Or, as Redrum suggested, you can use it to fund another online account, such at StormPay or PayPal, and then have it transferred to your bank account.

Or you may decide you would like to "play" the bubble sites to try to make it grow, or buy an ad in a programme. e-Gold can be used just like "real money".

Whichever you decide, it is a useful thing to have - opening an account is completely free, so you have nothing to lose ....... except, perhaps, your password, so WRITE IT DOWN!! biggrin.gif
(Don't store it on your computer, though, and don't use Gator or a programme like it to save your password, either - write it in a book ..... and don't lose that, either!! laugh.gif )

Ok Thank you very much for your answers. One more think I would like to ask. Can I transfer my e-gold e-money to my StormPay account? They would become real money? - It's quite a nice expression, real money, sounds cool no? smile.gif

Here's the scoop:

E-gold is just that: electronic gold. The company that runs e-gold has possession of VAST amounts of gold, along with some silver, palladium, and platinum. When e-gold first started, you could actually BUY this gold from them. Of course, you didn't get a brick of bullion or anything, no, you got "e-gold". E-gold is now accepted dang near everywhere.

When you receive a spend, you get that equivalent weight of gold credited to your account. The weight is figured by the exchange rate at the time of the spend. Gold used to run about $295 USD per troy ounce. Now its about $380 USD/tr.oz. So if you bought or received $295 in e-gold a year ago, you would now have $380 USD in your account. This isnt due to interest, it's becasue the price of gold is up.

E-gold IS real money, and yet it isn't. Remember when the US and every other country used to use the Gold Standard? It's the same principle. When you say "real money" you mean cash, right? I'm assuming you're a US citizen, but if not, the principle is the same. That new green and gold $20 bill in your wallet is "real money" right? Wrong. It's currency...a symbol of value. Sure, it'll buy you 20 bucks worth of goods, but the bill itself?...Worth about 2.6 cents in paper pulp, cotton threads, and ink. Gold (electronic or otherwise) is the "real" money, always has been. Same goes for seashells, eagle feathers, salt, or toenails...whatever physical item your culture trades as currency. (Did you know the word "salary" comes from Roman times, when workers were paid with salt? Ever heard the phrase "Not worth his salt"? There you go...you learned something today.)

You should consider e-gold real money. You should protect your e-gold password with your life, because there are no refunds with e-gold. There are plenty of reputable currency exchangers who will give you cash for your e-gold. Some even pay a premium (usu. ~1%) because e-gold can be tough to obtain. I hope this helps and newbies to this side of the internet...and maybe some old hands who didn't quite know how to explain the unique currency we all know and love...e-gold.

Along these lines...

I am wondering if anyone here has used the currency exchange forum to exchange e-gold for something else (paypal, stormpay, whatever). It seems like a good way to avoid the commissions of a broker and exchange your currency. Of course, there does seem to be some risk also. Has anyone done this? How long did it take?

Thanks!
