Oh dear. There will always be fake emails and silly people who get sucked in. I agree it's nasty and horrible but you need to protect yourselves.

1. E-gold, PayPal, eBay, none of them will EVER ask for your password in an email. They all say this on their websites.

2. Change your password once a month. Don't use a password you use for anything else. Don't use your computer sign-in password. Don't use the password you used for XYZ-whoever-paid-mails. DIRTY webmasters have emptied e-gold accounts like this using your details when you joined their program. One poor honest webmaster lost a huge amount when he joined another PTC site and used his e-gold password - the naughty WM logged into the e-gold account and emptied it.

3. Never, EVER EVER send credit card details in an email. An email ALWAYS gets copied onto at LEAST four other computers on the way to its destination. Would you give four strangers in the street your CC details? No.

4. If you are entering CC details on a website ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS look first for the yellow padlock down the bottom of your browser that tells you the connection is secure and encrypted. ALSO read the website address carefully. Pay-Pal is not the same as PayPal and eBay is not the same as MyEbay - and fraudsters do things like this.

5. Run an anti-spyware program every day. I recommend the free Ad-Aware from LavaSoft . Some of the anti-spywares have spyware themselves and this one is safe.

6. Use an internet firewall - Windows XP has it built in, this is how Microsoft Support or get a free one at the very least.

Keep your eyes open and don't be complacent and you will not have to worry about being duped. smile.gif
