Does anyone know of good cheap (or even free!) hosting that supports ASP? OR an effective way to convert ASP pages to PHP?

Edit: to say, I guess it's not really script modifications, but it seemed best to post in this folder somehow wink.gif

Thanks Sabu.

I checked out most of the hosts listed on that site - nothing much looks any good sad.gif
I ended up signing up for freewebs, but then found out you need to upload files 1 at a time, or pay for 'Premium' hosting.

I did see ASP2PHP, but haven't tried it yet. unsure.gif

Thanks folks for your ideas. But I've decided to forget about ASP altogether. I'm very happy with my current host, but they run on Zeus, not Apache, so there is no free module to provide ASP support.

So instead of worrying about converting or finding a free host with ASP support, I ditched the software that generated the ASP pages in favour of some that produces PHP. smile.gif ANd am very happy so far too!

i dont agree
asp is not soo poor//
we can do good programs in it without knowing structured programmings

better you should know asp fully before commenting on it

better dont make decisions without knowing something about it

SelfSupportiveSolutions:
asp hostings. they are lot there

you can go to www.asp.net to find asp/asp.net hostings

and the asp2php convertor wont work fully .. we need some extraprogramming knowledge to correct the errors

asp is also one of good programming server side language..

DO NOT USE ASP. The only servers capable of running ASP scripts are windoze servers. I wouldnt even trust a windoze server to run a shared documents folder on a LAN.

PHP, or CGI are the only real alternatives. If you go for ASP, then you are limiting yourself to windoze only hosts, and also, any host which is running IIS should be avoided. There has been over 15 security patches brought out in the last month or two to patch the numerous security holes which have been highlighted by a bunch of Russian crackers. I use the term 'cracker' because I find it an insult that these people who perform illegal acts of cracking into peoples sites are called hackers. The term hacker means someone who types a lot (comes from when typewriters were the norm and you had to hack at the keys) biggrin.gif

I did find out there is a module for Apache which allows it to run ASP.
BUT, it quickly became clear there was no reason to use ASP, rather than PHP. The only reason I ever even thought of it was that I was wanting to install a shopping cart that was generated in ASP. After giving it up as a lost cause due to all the negative stuff I found out about ASP, it didn't take me long to find an AWESOME free PHP shopcart script (osCommerce).

It sure seeems hard to find anyone who doesn't work for Microsoft who actually likes ASP. Now I just think of it as another attempt by a mega-corp to assume ownership over an aspect of the Internet using proprietary ownership of a file format. PDF from Adobe springs to mind as another such attempt (which I guess they have given up at some point and allowed to become a more public thing).

The module for PHP isnt that good plus you have to pay for it :S. I cant see a host shelling out just to allow one or two customers to use ASP without charging them a hefty sum. ph34r.gif
