I have done the latest security update on my site, however, I have had 2 members contact me stating they can't update their preferences and 1 member stating that they can't log out!
I have contacted John, but I was wondering if anyone else has this problem? Or a fix?

There is a redirect script in your public html directory that works like this:
When your members go to www.yoursite.com, they are redirected to www.yoursite.com/pages/index.php
It sounds to me like your partner may have managed to get that script into the admin directory.
If you can't figure out how to fix the situation, pm me your ftp login info and I'll try to fix it for you.

I've got several members who cannot login since the update.

It's another one. Back up your database, then click on the link to do the update. Hopefully you already have your license key if you've doen the rest before.

John often comes out with updates - sometimes, like this, right after a previous one. He always does it for a reason, so I figure always worth doing the updates. Fortunately I host with him so he does mine for me and I never have to worry about it

I host through Lucidity Hosting, and they are nice enough to do my backups if I ask nicely!

Sorry I don't recall what happens. As I said I don't need to do my own, but I did one once for someone else and it wasn't hard. I thought it wasn't much more than click the link then put your license key in.
If that gives you a downloadable file, then you'll need to unzip it and upload the contents to your site by FTP, overwriting the same structure that you find in the zip file. But I'm guessing a bit here - it would be better to get this confirmed by someone who does there own updates
