IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL MEC MEMBERS - RESTRUCTURING OF BUSINESS 9/1/02
About 2 years ago, MyECom started its points system. I have come to the conclusion that for the most part, the GPT program is not what MEC is about & furthermore, is not profitable for the business or its members as a whole. I did not open MyECom to be a GET PAID FOR NOTHING company, as it seems to have largely become. Quite frankly, I have grown to resent what it has become. There are a lot of good members in MyECom, BUT FAR FROM 7000 (total membership). After weighing the cost of server upgrades and bandwidth; and frankly, the fact that about 6000 of the members are here just to grab points and devote nothing else to MEC, I have decided to get back on track with the way I originally wanted MyECom to be. I wanted it to be a site that helped people help themselves. I wanted to offer free shopping carts so people could open their own online store and not have to spend a fortune sell their own product. Example: Joe has a frame shop and would like to sell on the net but has no way to market it and, the simple fact is, would probably find out that it would cost more to set up the shopping cart, pay for the hosting and advertising then he would ever make from it.
MyECom was never even intended to be a down line club or MLM of any kind. To be quite honest, before it gradually evolved into a down line club (and that was only because it really looked like you could make good money from PTS before the market fell out), I completely disliked the way MLM?s worked - it always seemed as if they had no real product to sell and, in a lot of cases, were just scams. The only reason why I got involved in the MLM aspect of it was because the GPT system was a way to do MLM without people having to invest any money and/or get hurt by losing money. But I was wrong - people DO get hurt with the GPT system. Some spend hundreds of dollars to market sites, hoping to see a return, just to have it go out of business. I was spending$300/month for a dedicated server that was big enough to host the site, but only making $50 profit (because most of the sites I promoted went out of business). I too, was being hurt.
Then a lot of the members suggested doing MEC?s own get-paid-to business?it sounded like a great alternative to promoting someone else?s business that could go under and leave us never getting paid. But for the most part, all it did was drive more traffic with the bar - causing more server load, and alluring a lot of members that were not interested learning how to become better Internet marketers or staring their own business on the net. Instead it brought in a lot of members that basically wanted to get paid to do nothing. They weren?t interested in becoming business owners themselves, but just wanted to tally points by using the chat or games and viewing the bar. Frankly, I didn?t even mind the members who were only in MEC to enjoy the community; visiting friends in chat, etc. But there were a lot of "members" that actually had only the intention of picking up a little extra cash for chatting & would simply go in and make trouble for all the "legitimate" members?and then expect to get paid for making everybody miserable! I don?t know about you, but I have never encountered ANY business that would pay me for simply CAUSING TROUBLE FOR THEM! It?s absolutely absurd.
MyECom is FAR from what I wanted or intended it to be. So, simply put, I am taking it back. I want to help people, but I want them to grow?and hopefully extend beyond MyECom. I want MyECom to be a starting point in launching an online business, not the stopping point.
After a long & difficult process?and I believe I?ve taken everything into consideration?the changes that are being implemented ON September 1st, 2002, can be summed up quite simply: Members that sell will be paid. Members that do nothing, will not.
The Specifics of this new policy are as follows:
1. There will be no more Points for anything but sales; and
2. The Point System is the same as it always has been for sales; with the exception of the Point Value being based on 50% of the Profit.
You members that have been working hard on your sales will see a significant increase in your profit. If you are one of those members who had previously only been involved in MEC to make money for nothing, I?m sure you will want to cancel your membership.
Now for the update on CHAT: In light of the fact that we will be "cleaning house", I will bring back chat; but, it will be ran as a separate site - like the forums. I hope that you will once again enjoy visiting with your friends.
I am really looking forward to getting MyECom back on track. And I am especially anxious to see those members who have been working hard to be successful finally start making the money they deserve. I sincerely hope that by reorganizing MEC in this way, we will all see -and be able to appreciate- the virtue that "residing" in a cooperative and united community can bring. Let?s hope that the pleasant and enjoyable family-feeling that MEC had before it became a GPT company returns.
