There was talk of banners as a form of advertising in another thread.
I'd like to learn how to make some decent ones. My knowledge is quite limited. Say I have Paint Shop Pro. Say I want a nice, glossy background. Say I want to use a fun font. What is my best bet to learn fast? Does anyone have any tutorials handy? Or advice that you'd like to share? Or resources to give for the tools needed (such as free fonts, backgrounds, clipart, forums, guides, how-tos)? I think a lot of people here would love to put together some nice banners for themselves to promote their various websites. And even some nice web graphics. Anyone willing to give us 'noobs' some tips and tricks and guidance? (IMG:http://www.getpaidforum.com/forums/egold.gif) This post has been edited by Mystical2000: Nov 20 2005, 05:10 PM |

well Anon, In making a baner, first off you need to make sure you start with an image size of 468Wx 60H, sometimes I start out large and re-size later but this isn't always such a good idea as this tends to make your design lose it's image quality.
Don't use fonts that are hard to read, such as really fancy script fonts or Caligriphy type fonts. it's a good Idea to work with a transparent "new image" and ad your background color using "layers" in PSP; Also you should use "new layers" for each element you wish to add to your design, this way they can be moved about without affecting the other elements of the design, then when you like what you see you can then merge all these layers and save your design. It's also a good Idea to save a working copy of your design in .PSP format so that you can use it for a template, if you decide to make your banner an animation |

Hey we got the big old boot & moved!!!!!!!
  THANK YOU THANK YOU EVERYONE For posting your goodies. I can't do this tonight, but I'm gonna sit myself down and force myself to learn how to do this stuff properly. I made the odd crapola banner using a freebie program (banner maker pro - got it back in the day when it was really free), and I'm really spoiled with just easily adding the little bits of graphics and backgrounds and stuff. However the end product is low quality and cheesey (IMO). I wanna know how the big boys do it!  I think it would be real nice to be able to whip up some header graphics or banner graphics that even look somewhat good! Thanks peeps! [keep posting goodies if you have any - this is fun!] |
